Freud writes in "Group Psychology" that the social sentiment is grounded in hostility that is later channeled to the positioning of a common object as ideal. That is, for Freud, social politics is constituted by ideals which are forms of satisfying the aggressiveness immanent in every person. In a similar spirit, Lacan claims in one of his seminars that the unconscious is politics.

In this seminar we will examine why for psychoanalysis the social structure, the collective community, the shared ideology, the political opinion – are not alien or external to the psychic position. For psychoanalysis the political does not stand in contrast to the singularity of the individual.

Active participation in all class meetings is obligatory.
