This class seeks to give an overview of the different trajectories of Jewish thought during the Second Temple period. The title should not be taken too literal: Some of the writings of the period are even a bit older than the youngest books of the Hebrew Bible. Yet, there are modifications in wisdom literature, the beginnings of apocalypticism, re-written Scripture, the formation of Jewish sects etc. Some parts of this larger development will not be included: Jewish Hellenism (there is another class for this), Philo and Qumran/Dead Sea Scrolls. Anyway there are enough elements that will be of importance for the ensuing Jewish though, be it by influence or else be denial.
