Course description
The course is an introduction to articulatory phonetics and acoustic phonetics.
In the domain of articulatory phonetics, the principles for the categorization of sounds in the world's languages according to features will be discussed and phonetic transcription according to the IPA will be taught. In the field of acoustic phonetics, the various acoustic characteristics of different sounds will be presented, and the acoustic analysis of sounds will be taught.
The theoretical studies will be accompanied by practical exercises in transcription.

Course requirements
Assignments: 7 written assignments will be given, 5 of which will be included in the final grade (5% per assignment). If students submit more than 5 assignments, the best 5 will be included in the final grade. Students submitting fewer than 5 assignments will lose 5% of the final grade for each assignment not submitted. All assignments will be submitted to the TA’s mailbox by 12:00 on the assigned date. Early submission is possible. No late submission whatsoever is possible.
Joint assignments or partially identical assignments will be graded 0% and included in the final grade.
Website: Students are required to check for updates on the website before every lesson.
Transcription exam: Students who do not participate in the transcription exam cannot take the final exam.
Final exam: On the date specified by the university.

Final exam: 65%
Assignments: 25%
Transcription exam: 10%
The final grade of students whose exam grade is lower than 60% will be the exam grade (i.e. without assignments and the transcription exam).
