The seminar will investigate the influence of imperial settings on the construction of local identities. The main emphasis will be on local communities of Asia Minor and Egypt, although Phoenicia and Judea will also be included. Chronologically, the survey will start with the Persian Empire, but will dwell more particularly on Hellenistic and Early Imperial Times
