Course description

Death is the inescapable fact of life. But at the same time it is highly elusive and raises difficult philosophical puzzles, some of which we shall explore. What is death anyway, and how bad is it? Might we be immortal, and would it be a good thing if we were? Would the extinction of the human race be bad? Life itself raises a host of closely related issues which will also concern us. For example: what is the value of life? What makes someones life go well? Is making new people morally wrong, or can it actually make the world better?
