Course description
The process of European Integration began in economic integration. Economic integration among the member states of the European Union remains the prominent institutional basis for its operation, and among its main achievements. The study of the economic policy areas in the European Union is central to the understanding of the scope and depth of the European integration model. This course analyzes the increasing economic interdependence among the member states, and discusses the basics of economic integration theory and the implications of integration for social cohesion in Europe. The course covers the mechanisms and politics of the budget of the European Union, the common agricultural policy, the single market, the competition policy, the common commercial policy, and economic and monetary union.
