Course description
The course's objective is to review and discuss the fundamentals of cognitive research in geography that include the following issues: cognitive mapping, spatial cognitive representation of geographical environment, structure of spatial knowledge and frame of reference, the acquisition of spatial knowledge, direction and distance estimations; systematic distortions in cognitive maps; cognitive distance; the link of cognitive distance with social identity, attitudes, emotions, and environmental properties.
