Course description
The seminar will deal with a series of sugyot in this chapter, in the format of Beit Midrash interactive learning. We will inspect the historical background of the mishnaic legislation and the Babylonian discussions, and ponder various issues, among them judicial matters, the rabbinic attitude towards gentiles and the foreign government, the Babylonian yeshivah, the relationship between the Palestinian and Babylonian Jewish centers and more. The seminar will also grapple with problems concerning the research of Talmud, such as the creation and redaction of the Talmudic units, the development of the different versions, etc.
