Course description

Of all the biblical books, Qoheleth might be the closest to modern sensitivities and especially to the philosophical current of Existentialism. The seminar seeks to train students in close reading of the book of Qoheleth in order to properly appreciate its conceptions against the background of Wisdom literature, of which it is an integral part—even if viewing from a distance and ironically. At the same time, we will try to see how reading the book through the lens of modern philosophy exposes unrecognized levels of meaning within the biblical text.
