Course description
The Bible and ancient Near Eastern sources bring to us some evidence regarding the existance of queens. This course will examine the written representation of the figure of queen in the Bible and the historical significance of this representation by comparing historical and other ancient Near Eastern sources. We will examine some key terms in the Bible and then turn to see how foreign queens are represented in the text: the queen of Sheba, Washti; and Israelite and Judean queens, Izebel, Athalia, and Nehushta and compare them to queens from the ancient Near East.
