Course description
How is a personal identity created? What role do alterity and strangeness play in it? And what is the meaning of the fantasy of pure identity and what are its political implications? In this seminar we will discuss the complex relationship between identity and strangeness, reading psychoanalytical theories (Freud, Lacan, Kristeva, Klein), philosophical writings (Hegel, Nietzsche, Levinas, Butler, Agamben), and literary texts.
