“Is there a Repetition” asks Kierkegaard, but cannot find an adequate answer. Does everything we do repeat itself? Can one overcome repetition? And what forms of repetition are possible? To answer these questions we will read literary works (Dada and surrealism, Nouveau Roman), psychoanalytical texts (Freud, Lacan, Winnicott) and philosophical analyses (Nietzsche, Kierkegaard, Benjamin, Deleuze, Baudrillard). We will discuss various forms of repetition – mechanical and creative, infantile and adult, compulsive and playful – and will try to understand the purpose of repetition and how to transform it from symptom into a creative act.
