Course description
The Jewish-Christian Polemic: From Mendelssohn to Buber
The Jewish-Christian Polemic has begun in the first centuries AD. Whereas during the Middle Ages the Jewish polemicists had restrained themselves on account of their insecure juridical status, in the New Modern Era they did not afraid to criticize and even to attack Christianity. On this ground the question that will stand in the core of the seminar is: How did Jewish thinkers in the New Modern Era (Mendelssohn Moses, Cohen Hermann, Rosenzweig Franz, Buber Martin and A.D. Gordon) understand Christianity and its relation to Judaism?
