Course description
Between Israeliness and Ulra-Orthodoxy: Conflicts and Crossroads in 20th-21st Israeli Haredi Cultures
This course will explore how the traditional halachic Jewish culture has been restructured into the Israeli context of the 20th-21st centuries. To this end we will investigate some of the issues which lie at the heart of this restructuring, such as the organization of space and time, the ideal of pleasure, notions of power and the use of military might, the memory of the Holocaust, and more.
