Course description

During the first term and the first part of the second term, students in the course will learn the basic principles of Classical Egyptian (the Egyptian language of the early 2nd millennium, which was used to write religious and monumental texts throughout the 2nd and 1st millennia BCE.) In the second term, the students will read a more complex text, such as King Cheops and the Magicians, or the Shipwrecked Sailor, and also practice reading simple common Egyptian texts, such as offering formulae, which are found on Egyptian objects in museum collections worldwide.
