Course description
Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis, suggests a therapy method which based on conversation: talking cure. The goal of the conversation is to reveal a hidden psychological truth which is the cause of the psychological illness. Since he sees this truth as the key for psychological relief he was troubled by the possibility that the result of the conversation might be mere persuasion and not this truth. Therefore, he makes great practical and theoretical efforts to find out the true dynamic for the curing conversation. His investigation of the conversation brings him to formulate the theory of psychoanalysis and to new discoveries concerning the relation between talking and truth. Thus, Freud suggests a new perspective on an old philosophical and rhetorical issue, which is crucial to his therapy but also contributes to the understanding of every human discourse, including interpretation of texts.
