Course description
Introduction to theories of sentence processing
Aya Meltzer-Asscher
During sentence processing, we determine the meaning of the sentence based on the sequence of incoming words. In this course, we will get to know the basic concepts related to the processes and mechanisms underlying sentence comprehension, and discuss different theories attempting to account for this complex ability. Among other topics, the material will include:
-          Incremental processing
-          Serial and parallel processing models
-          Modular and interactive models, and information types relevant for sentence processing
-          Processing syntactic ambiguity
-          Processing dependencies
Course requirements: assignments, final exam
Prerequisites: intro to linguistics, foundations of theoretical linguistics, psycholinguistics: research methods and experimental design
