Statistics for Linguists

Course description:

This course is an introductory course in statistics, aimed at linguists. During the course we will present some fundamental concepts in the fields of descriptive and inferential statistics, see different ways in which linguists can make use of statistical tools, introduce some important statistical tests, and understand how to select the appropriate test for a certain research. The examples and exercises in the course all contain data taken from the various disciplines of linguistics.

Participation in this course and the following one (Advanced Statistics) is highly recommended to any student who plans to conduct a quantitative research in linguistics.
