Course description
The American Dream is a central component of history and identity construction in the US. Some will claim that it was and still is the moving force beyond the waves of immigration that created the American society and its major ideological source of legitimation. The American Dream has political, economic, social and cultural dimensions and despite its transformation over time, it exists as a canonic narrative until today. In this seminar we will explore the various manifestations of the American Dream focusing on the illusions and hopes it provided to the American cultures. The students will choose a specific subject and will analyze the presence and nature of the American Dream in such a chosen subject.
