Course description
The seminar will focus on Hegel’s “Aesthetics: Lectures on Fine Art.” This book brings together lectures and other texts Hegel has written in the first half of the nineteenth century, and in which he deals with questions regarding the essence of art, the concept of beauty, the relationship between art and the absolute, and touches in his discussion on different aesthetic mediums such as music, painting, sculpture and poetry. The seminar will be co-taught by Prof. Eli Friedlander and Dr. Ilit Ferber, and will be devoted to a close reading of the book.
