Course description
This course is intended to provide background and a preliminary familiarity with the ceramic repertoire of ancient Israel from its inception in the 6th millennium BCE until the end of the 3rd millennium. We will discuss the technical and stylistic evolution of the assemblage, its social and its economic significance. Classes take place in the Institute of Archaeology study collection, and are based on hands-on examination of the material in the collection, bolstered by relevant finds from ongoing excavation projects.
