The course will analyze the various components of collection establishment and management in museums and private collections including the methods utilized to define the vision and principals of a collection through the practical elements of its management. Among the topics that the course will address are: the decision to establish a collection; how to crystallize a collection which was formed without prior planning; professional collection management; unique collections of various types; aspects of registration, storage, handling, protection, and security, according to their specific characteristics.
