This course introduces students to a variety of inquiry methods, including archival research, participant-observation, interviews, and ethnographic mapping. We will discuss the nature of evidence, reflect on the value of scholarly research, and consider strategies of academic writing. The class will pay particular attention to the ways in which other areas of inquiry have influenced the study of the built environment. Each student will explore these diverse methods and ideas through a semester-long project.
