Course description

This course is intended to provide students with an overview of the history of building constructions and architectural aspects in Eretz Israel between the years 1850-1960.

The purpose of the course is to develop an ability to investigate and to analyze historic assets as a preliminary skill for those who take an interest in the field of the cultural built heritage.

The course will provide an introduction with local architecture terminology, building materials, systems and technologies. The main focus is to understand the evolution of local historic architectural styles and typologies and to be acquainted with influential figures in the fields of construction, technologies and design. We will explore the changes that occurred in planning and architecture over the years and their correspondence with geographical, topographical and climatic conditions as well as with political, economic and cultural aspects.
