Course description

In the framework of an academic clinic the course will involve theoretic discussions of ethical questions and professional training while supplying architectural services to a disempowered community. Architectural ethics will be scanned for its unique mixture of creative imaginary and emphatic personal service.  The design project will be of residential assemblies being advanced by "Shalem foundation". The Foundation forwards the development of services for the challenged individual in the local authorities with the aim of developing and promoting community services to mentally challenged people of all ages, in all areas of life, to create the conditions for encouraging their integration in the community and society, for increasing public awareness to their special needs, to promote the professional personnel and research in the field of mental retardation, and to collect and process data required for the planning and establishment of services in the community. The vision is to grant the exceptional individuals in general, and specifically the mentally challenged, the basic right to live a normal life in the natural environment, to fulfill their potential and take part in the social, cultural and occupational world, in accordance with their abilities, desires and needs. In the clinic we will join  the foundation people as well as experts from various disciplines to study and form criteria in order to evaluate architectural elements of the remedial centers.
