The course will operate as a clinical program that combines a theoretical and practical discussion of ethical dilemmas relating to the city ‘s public space. To this end, we will examine the definition of the public space in the city and explore the flexibility of its borders, its realization potential, and its ability to host a variety of users with different (and sometimes contradictory) needs. The topics of the course will be divided into conceptual and practical units, and will include discussions on the right to a city, functionality and mixed uses, commuting and different perceptions of space, and on the other hand a hierarchical analysis of the public space and its various components, a review of the physical response to different usage requirements, from walking areas such as sidewalks to gardening, paving and more.
