Course description

This seminar is for students in The Honor roll program in Design for Stage, Film and TV studies. Its purpose is to provide designers with methodological tools with which to analyze and critically interpret visual images. The seminar will introduce basic theories of the visual domain. It will include several methodologies for the analysis, decoding, and conceptualization of Esthetic, Structural, Formal, and Ideological aspects in the visual dimension of stage and screen works. Class will be comprised of lectures accompanied by visual aids, discussions, exercises, student presentations, and a case study. In all these the overlapping points of theory and practice in research, writing, and design process will be emphasized. During the semester students will write a personal research proposal and present it to the class. Each student will form his or her research methodology according to the specific research topic and aims.
