Course description
The course provides a comprehensive study of major periods, styles, genres and films starting with the early silents and culminating with late postmodernism. A discussion, both ideological and aesthetic, of - among others - German expressionism, soviet montage, classical Hollywood cinema, Italian neo-realism and French new wave, Asian and third world cinema. The course is accompanied by screenings of relevant film excerpts (but not full length films).
