In the course, we will study Hitchcock's films in various research approaches. Following the Auteur theory, we will examine characters, film style, aesthetics and critique that characterize Hitchcock's work, as well as diachronically the development of these characteristics over the years in the films.
Various theories such as psychoanalysis and feminism will expand the discussion on Hitchcock's theme- the subject social and sexual evolvement.
By examining Hitchcock's selected filmography we will discuses more issues such as popular narrative cinema and spectatorship in general and the manipulation of the spectator in the suspense genre in particular. We will analyze reflexive techniques in Hitchcock's films as well as intertextual references to his films in other directors such as Spielberg, Kubrick, the Coen brothers, Cronenberg, Coppola, Demme etc'.
