Film and Television as arts and media can mobilize their narrative, visual, and musical resources to capture, reproduce and re-present history and the past. This course examines Israeli and American films and television series which retrospectively re-present past decades and look back at history from a nostalgic, reflexive and interpretative vantage points. Our discussion, analysis and bibliographical sources will study retrospective modes of representation on both film and television, the critical and discursive functions of such retrospective modes, changing strategies of remembering history and revisions of collective memory on American and Israeli nostalgic and retrospective films and television series.
