Course description

The Seminar offers and encourages an analysis of Israeli documentaries made in the years 1963-1982, when modernist Israeli documentaries have emerged, associated primarily with the names of David Perlov and David Grinberg. The timeframe is also associated with the emergence of critical-political documentaries made mainly within Israeli newly founded TV, emphasizing issues that have rarely appeared until them in Israeli cinema such as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and ethnic divide while at the same time presenting more personal and reflexive attitude towards filmed reality. The seminar aims to critically present and discuss theoretical issues as modernist aesthetics, Zionist and post-Zionist ideology, collective memory and national identity.
