The course would like to examine the construction of female identity through the popular narratives of contemporary television prime time series.
The growing power and central role of the TV media in the creation and reproduction of popular culture in a mass society, as well as the intimate power of the interaction which evolves between the story narrative on screen and the viewers, invites us to a feminist discussion on the feminine possibilities as they are represented through prime time TV series.
During the course we will analyze these feminine options through parameters of body, color, race, family status, sexual orientation, female bonding etc.
The course will concentrate in TV series which focus on female heroines such as "Sex and the city", "Grey's Anatomy", "Desperate housewives" and "The L World".
