This course is the first of its kind in the Musicology program and in the School of Music on the whole. It combines theory, practice and field work. The aim of the course is to study ways in which the music one plays and listens to construct an identity and sense of home. Through Music, the complexities of identity and sense of place, belonging and home will be unpacked. We will work in a community in Petach Tikva and together collect, record and transcribe music of their choice. The process and outcome will be explored and analyzed together with a production of a song book and performance of the members of the community’s songs.
