Course description
The course will focus on the development of Western music during the Classic and Romantic periods (between the years 1730-1900). We shall discuss the formation of the Classic and the Romantic styles and their various definitions while examining the works of some of the major composers who exemplify those styles. The course topics include the development of musical language, important stages in the development of instrumental, vocal and operatic music, the development of musical genres and forms, the development of musical instruments and the orchestra, and also relevant issues in performance practice.
