The course deals with the acoustic, physical and musical aspects of sound. Throughout the course, acoustic characteristics of timbre – of acoustic and electronic instruments and the human voice – will be discussed. Furthermore, the properties of resonant spaces, such concert halls, rooms and open spaces will be taught, as well as their effects on sound. Throughout the course, students will link acoustic theory with digital technology through use of computer simulations, spectral analyses and basic computer audio manipulations.
