This course provides a general introduction to the work of an orchestral conductor and the basic skills required, and is meant as an elective for students of music performance. Addressing various issues of basic conducting technique (upbeat, conducting figures, entry cues etc.), the course will also deal with preparing and marking the score for rehearsals as well as some basics of rehearsing technique. Selected works of the canonic symphonic repertory will be studied and prepared throughout the course.
