Course description

In the course we shall consider concepts, movements and issues in the artistic process of contemporary art in Asia – since the end of WWII (1945) to this day. We shall discuss contemporary art from Japan, Korea, China, India and Vietnam. We shall touch upon painting

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

and sculpture, but will move one to discuss new media such as photograph, video art, installation and performance arts, and their rise in recent years. We shall review works that look into the impact of Colonial period and the encounter with the West and its enduring influence on creative mode and local criticism. We will go on a museum visit for the sake of meeting the work in an unmediated manner.
