In the course we shall consider the language of ink – from calligraphy to ink painting in its plethora of styles. During the coure we will look into the theory of ink-painting , the relations between writing and repre4sentation, performativity and Indexicality. We will study the structure of Chinese writing system, the traditions and styles, and then we will go on ti ink painting and the means of representation in ink painting.  The course will include theoretical discussion and practical experiences in the work with brush ink and Chinese style brushes.
