Museums in Israel hold many medieval objects, wither on display or ‘hidden away’ in the storage facilities, whose provenance and authenticity are not always secured. In this seminar we will learn together how to touch, see, and research medieval objects at first hand. We will focus on aspects of provenance and materiality. The seminar will incorporate visits to the Israeli Museum, the Franciscan Museum, and the Holy Sepulchre, as well as a visit to a leading museum oversees (probably the Cloisters, New York).
