The art created by women artists in Israel constitutes a central chapter of the history of Israeli art and culture, yet it has been the subject of little research from a gendered perspective. This advanced seminar will discuss a lineage of artistic production, revealing an alternative canon to the well-established canon of Israeli art, created mostly by men. In conjunction with prominent male figures in the local scene, we will analyze art created by various female figures, by which the showcase will allow us to ask new questions and establishing a re-reading of central themes and also propose new methodologies.
