Course description

The seminar deals with mythological patterns in modern and postmodern art. We will focus on the understanding of "myth" as a structural component of the language of culture, which constitutes collective and individual consciousness. We will discuss the interplay between myth and reality, and the contribution of art to the crystallization of modern and postmodern mythologies. The discussion of the meanings of mythical images in art will be based on the main theories of the myth, including anthropological, philosophical, socio-political, and psychological conceptions.
