Course description

From the early years of its existence Tel Aviv has been a subject in Israeli painting. In this seminar we will discuss the different artistic images of the city in the contexts of Tel Aviv's urban development employing sources such as maps, news media, and cultural sources. We will analyze the different world views of the artists creating the city's image while referring to - but not only-modernity, east and west, landscape, space, place, Tel Aviv Jaffa and Zionism.
