While contemporary culture moves in the direction of screens and projected images that gradually control our lives, the history of art practices is made of varying charactrestics of materiality and visuality that were used as tools in the hands of artists to create their personal expression. In this course, we shall look into the “means of production” of images and spaces – in painting, sculptue, photography, video art, performance and installation art. We shall examine different methods and materials, from antiquity to contemporary times, in Europe to East Asia.
