Decoding the meanings of works of the visual arts is based on three elements related to each other. First, an analysis of the "form" or formal characteristics of the work, such as composition, line, color, light, motion, space, perspective, material and technique of the medium (painting, mosaic, sculpture, architecture). Secondly, an analysis of the interaction between the "form" and "mode" of visual expression, for example, "realism", "idealization", "abstraction". Thirdly, acquaintance with the methodological approaches that interpret the art work content, for example, iconographical, or sociological approaches to art. This course is thus dedicated to the development of skills of observation, morphological analysis and discussion of the meanings of the visual imagery.
