Course description
The course discusses the concept of "the theatrical event" from different perspectives as developed in American and European Theatre Studies and Performance Studies from the second half of the 20 century. The focus is on the communicative, semiotic and phenomenological encounter between performer and spectator; between the presentation/production of a performance and the perception/reception of an audience. The concept underlines the "eventness" of all encounters between performers and spectators. The aim of the course is to explore the essence of "eventness" and its contribution to a more profound understanding of the theatrical experience.
