The course covers foundations, principals, tools and methods of directing: Repertoire
and play/project choice considerations. Foundations of the The Unit Devision Method -
Text analysis, division and tools for developing insight into a play. Acting foundations,
the “method” by Stanislavsky and working with actors. Use of space, visual perception
and dialogue with the creative team (playwright/translator, set designer, lighting
designer, costumes designer, sound designer, choreographer). Basic principles of sound,
lighting and choreography for directors. Establishment of theatrical vocabulary and
concept. Casting considerations, rehearsal methods, time management, technical
rehearsals, teams management and professional ethics.
The first semester will be focused on directing actors.
The second semester will be focused on establishing concepts and theatre vocabularies.
