Besides its value as theatre, which will serve as a basic topic, Lorca’s drama is saturated with existentialistic and social messages, referring to man and women’s place in the world in relation to the power of God and the figure of the “other” as conceived in Spain during the first decades of the 20^th century.  This course will therefore deal with some of his plays and poems in the background of the modernist thought, Spain’s social and political situation at the time and the artist’s and his family’s positions.
