Course description

The main purpose of the seminar is to present and debate the problem of visual representation. Since the proliferation of visual means in the 19th century (the invention of photography) our society has become intimately connected to pictures. The question to be raised will address this phenomenon, put emphasis on the numerous facets of visual means, stating with paintings, posters, caricatures, photography and the cinema. How do each and every one of these means transfer the information it contains. As part of the seminar the above theoretical issues will be demonstrated by works of art, photography, cinema, dance, video art, etc., in which the body of the artists vis-à-vis its erotic contexts will be demonstrated and debated.
