A survey conducted by Haaretz Daily shows that the majority of Israelis think that it is inappropriate to forgive Germany the crimes of the Holocaust. At the same time in South Africa the truth and reconciliation commissions brought about transitional justice and enabled blacks to become integral in the political and social management of the country. This seminar examines how love forgiveness and resentment operate when these concepts apply to crimes against humanity both on individuals and on the cultural, artistic, and philosophical spheres. We will examine novels, short stories, poems, paintings, films, criticism, and philosophy that researches this vast film in Israel, Germany, and South Africa.
