This seminar centers on the theoretical and performative encounters between a vocal utterance, theatrical presence and identity. The voice is a pivotal term in contemporary theoretical and artistic discourse. It may appear to signify the presence of a subjective; or it may contradict this viewpoint and present an illusion of a presence that underscores the discrepancy between voice and identity. This seminar will focus on some of the theoretical and political implications of the connection between voice-identity-presence through the works of performance artists that use their voice as a dominant material in their work.
